2009 TRAVEL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT PLAY INFORMATION

 

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP:  The top twelve (12) teams from each age classification qualify for the ASA National Championship Tournament. State Tournament is open only to Southern California ‘A’ teams. Teams must enter to qualify for other championship play.   Exception 10U

REGION CHAMPIONSHIP: The next 8 finishers from the SoCal 'A' State tournament qualify for Regional Championship.  Additional teams will qualify for the Regional Championship according to a new Pacific Coast Region 14 qualifying procedure accepted by the PCR 14 Association Commissioners.  The top two (2) teams from the Regional Championship will qualify for Nationals.  Exception 10U

REGIONAL ADVANCEMENT PROCEDURE:  There will be a maximum of 32 Teams in the Regional Tournaments.  Teams will have the option to continue on to Regionals.  Teams not accepting the berth to Regional Tournaments may exercise the option to participate in the ASA National Championships (Western Nationals).

NATIONAL QUALIFIER: There are National Qualifiers in each ASA Region. National Tournament Entry Form required.  Each National Qualifier has one (1) berth.

HALL OF FAME QUALIFIER: 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U Teams Only. Each ASA Region conducts this tournament. Region 14 receives two (2) berths per age group to the Hall of Fame Championship Tournament held in Oklahoma City at the Hall of Fame Stadium.  The top eight (8) finishers of this tournament qualify for ASA Nationals.  

ASA WESTERN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT: Teams that participate in the Southern California State Championship qualify for this tournament. The 1st and 2nd Place teams of the tournament will qualify for the next year's National Championship. The teams must meet all eligibility requirements of a returning team to nationals in the ASA Code.

OFFICIAL CHAMPIONSHIP ROSTERS

The official ASA roster is required for all ASA Championship Play. A player should not sign the roster until you are certain that this player will be with your team for Championship Play. Roster maximum is 20 players.

Roster change deadline will be July 1 (July 15 for GOLD). In the event championship play should begin earlier than the 1st of July (July 15th for GOLD), the roster change deadline would be one day earlier than the beginning of championship play.  A player not signed with another ASA team or a player released from a team may be added to your roster.

 

Player Agreement Forms must be on file with the Age Commissioner to compete in Championship Play.

After July 1st (July 15th for GOLD) three (3) Pick-up Players (players from another ASA team no longer eligible for Championship Play) may sign a Pick-up Player Form and compete in Championship Play. (Roster maximum includes Pick-up Players).

Players must sign roster. Parents/Caretaker of players under the age of eighteen (18) must sign before player is eligible to participate in Championship Play. Rosters are not required to be notarized.

Send completed roster to your Age Commissioner. The Commissioner will verify all players that have a Player Agreement on file. The roster must be signed in order to enter ASA Championship Tournaments.

"Red lining" rosters. Your Championship Roster will be red lined when you check in at a tournament that advances (qualifies) a team to Nationals.   Once your roster is red lined, it is frozen.

IF YOU ARE A RETURNING TEAM

To be an eligible returning team you must meet the returning team requirements as listed in the ASA 2008 Official Rules of Softball Book. Send the Championship Roster, Official Tournament Entry Form to your Age Group Commissioner for verification and Commissioner's (or designee) signature.

TRAVEL PERMITS

Travel Permits are no longer required for Championship Play. Some ASA Associations or Tournament Directors MAY ask for one. A Travel Permit form is included in your team packet.  They are required for Invitational Tournaments but not within the Pacific Coast Region (California, Nevada, Hawaii).

OFFICIAL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ENTRY FORM

A National Tournament Entry Form is necessary to enter a National Qualifier, Sector, or Hall of Fame Qualifier. You do not need a travel permit, just the official National Tournament Entry Form.

The Age Group Commissioner will mail or fax you the National Tournament Entry form upon request. Make a copy. Give the original to the Tournament Director of that tournament. If you win, they must complete the form and send to the National Championship Tournament Director. Check back to see that this form was sent to the National Championship Tournament Director.

IF YOU WIN A TOURNAMENT AND QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS

You must notify your Age Group Commissioner by 5:00 p.m. on the Monday following your team earning a berth to withdraw from Southern California ASA Championship Tournaments. Contact other Tournament Directors of tournaments you have entered. If you do not withdraw by the deadline, you will not receive an entry fee refund.

You should receive the National Fact Sheet from the Tournament Director where you qualified. Verify with the Tournament Director that they will forward your Tournament Entry Form, and roster to the address listed on the Fact Sheet. If not, get your roster, have him/her sign the Tournament Entry Form and roster before you leave.

Contact the National Tournament Director and send him/her: (a) Tournament Entry Form, (b) Entry Fee Check, (c) Team Picture, and (d) Championship Roster.

Keep a copy of your roster with your paperwork. Make sure you carry them with you to the National Championship Tournament.
